Over time, everyone’s skin changes. A lack of fats and collagen in the skin as you grow older can cause your face to sag and become wrinkled. Unfortunately, even very young people can develop wrinkles and lines in different areas of the face. That is why, at DFW Oral Surgeons, we are proud to offer high-quality derma fillers! Whether you want to make your appearance more youthful or enhance the aesthetic of your lips and skin, we are here for you.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a type of treatment we use to remove wrinkles and fine lines in the skin. This option is excellent for patients who want smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. We can also use dermal fillers to adjust the size and shape of your lips. Together, we can customize and enhance the aesthetics of your smile.
At DFW Oral Surgeons, we use Juvederm and Restylane dermal fillers. Both of these gels are made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a type of sugar that your body naturally produces in the skin. As you age, your body will eventually make less of this substance. Over time, your skin will lose some of its definition and elasticity, leading to wrinkles and other blemishes.
By injecting dermal fillers into targeted areas around your eyes, lips, and face, we can restore your skin’s definition and eliminate wrinkles. Additionally, the hyaluronic acid in Juvederm and Restylane will also encourage your body to produce more collagen, which is incredibly beneficial to your skin, hair, and nails.
What is the Procedure?
To begin, Dr. Shillingburg will examine your skin and face to determine which areas need the most attention. He will discuss your concerns and goals with you and help you decide how to move forward. Once you have decided on a treatment plan, Dr. Shillingburg will begin injecting small amounts of the filler gel into the different areas of your face.
Dermal fillers are quick and relatively painless. Most treatments can be finished in less than an hour! You will be able to see your results immediately. Because most dermal fillers incorporate small amounts of pain killer, you should not feel any discomfort. If you are concerned about the injections, Dr. Shillingburg may apply a small amount of topical anesthetic to your skin.
How Long Will My Treatment Last?
The procedure’s longevity will depend on several factors, including:
- The placement and type of gel
- Your lifestyle
- Your metabolism and diet
- Your overall health
Lip enhancements generally last up to six months, while skin improvements may last up to one year. Because this procedure is so quick, many patients make it a habit to come in every so often for a touch-up.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Shillingburg, he will ask you about your health, goals, and lifestyle. This will help him determine which type of filler would be best and how often you may need to repeat the process.
