Warning Signs of a Dental Abscess That We Need to Address
Posted on 9/10/2019 by Alyssa O'Steen
Dental abscesses are common, and they can present a multitude of problems when they are not cared for in the best possible way, as soon as symptoms arise. Due to this, knowing the signs and symptoms of an abscess, as well as knowing how to care for them, is important for your oral and overall health.
Warning Signs of a Dental Abscess
A dental abscess can be taken care of, whether removing the tooth or having a root canal performed. Those that are experiencing an abscess will often have extreme pain in the area of the abscess, which can become quite uncomfortable. Over the counter pain medications may not be able to reduce the amount of pain.
Another symptom is having a large, liquid-filled pocket in or on the side of the tooth in the gum. This is the abscess itself, and you do not want to pop or break the abscess, as this can cause the area to become even more infected.
If not taken care of, these abscesses can cause the infection to move through the body and blood stream. This can lead to death if it is not treated soon enough. The tooth can also become loose and it can fall out after some time. Whatever the reason, it is always important to give our office a call if you feel that you have a dental abscess, as this is a true dental problem that requires the best treatment plan possible without any type of delay.
If you think you have a dental abscess, or if you know you have one, please give our office a call to schedule a time to come out and have an exam and treatment for the abscess before it becomes a more serious problem.
