Many People Who Get Dental Implants Also Need Gum Grafts
Posted on 2/10/2019 by Alyssa O'Steen
Dental implants have become a popular way to replace teeth that are either missing or severely damaged. They look and feel just like a person's natural teeth, and they should be treated the same way that natural teeth are treated.
The problem is that if someone has missing teeth, it is probable that there are other problems as well. Often, the gums are also affected. Sometimes there is not enough healthy gum in the mouth to support the dental implants. That is where gum grafts come in.
Gum grafts are pretty much what they sound like. Tissue is taken, usually from the palate, and then grafted onto the gums. This can make a large difference for patients who need dental implants. The graft can be used to cover the exposed area of the gumline. It is a simple procedure, and it can make your smile look better than it has in years. Sometimes a bone graft or a sinus lift is needed as well.
Aftercare It can take a while to heal from dental implants, gum grafts, and bone grafts. You will be given instructions for what you need to do to care for your mouth while you heal. We might also recommend that you stay away from certain foods for a period of time.
Dental implants have changed many lives, and they continue to do so. No one wants to have missing teeth, and this is a great way to make sure that the missing teeth are missing no longer. If you would like to learn more about implants, please make an appointment to see us. We would also like to see if you are a good candidate for the procedure.
